LSU women beat Ole Miss 65-49, advance to SEC quarterfinals (Mar 2, 2017)
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) Chloe Jackson had her second career double-double, Ayana Mitchell scored 14 with seven rebounds and No. 7 seed LSU beat Mississippi 65-49 in the Southeastern Conference Tournament on Thursday night.
Jackson finished with 22 points and a career-high 14 rebounds and Raigyne Moncrief scored 10 for LSU (20-10). The Tigers will play sixth-ranked and second-seeded Mississippi State in the quarterfinals on Friday.
Taylor Manuel's layup to open the second half gave No. 10 seed Ole Miss a 32-29 lead, but the Rebels missed their next six shots, and 12 of their next 14, and LSU used a 23-6 run to take a 52-38 lead into the fourth quarter. Madinah Muhammad's layup pulled Mississippi within nine with 7:50 to play but Jackson scored the next six points and LSU led by double figures the rest of the way.
Manuel had 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting for Ole Miss (17-13) and Muhammad scored 12. The Rebels, who have lost three in a row, shot 22.6 percent, including 1 of 10 from 3-point range, and hit just 4 of 11 free throws in the second half.
LSU, which trailed throughout the first half, was 12-of-21 shooting (57.1 percent) after halftime.
