No. 17 Arizona State women handle Columbia 70-49

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) Katie Hempen and Quinn Dornstauder scored 14 points apiece and No. 17 Arizona State beat Columbia 70-49 on Sunday in the consolation game of the ASU Classic tournament.

Arizona State (4-3) rebounded after being upset by VCU on Saturday in the first round of the tournament it hosts.

The teams were tied after one quarter of play, but the Sun Devils outscored the Lions 23-9 in the second quarter and 13-6 in the third to build a comfortable lead and pull away.

Despite the win, Columbia outshot Arizona State 41 percent to 34 percent, but the Sun Devils were 9 of 29 from beyond the arc and had 12 steals. Columbia turned it over 21 times.

Columbia (5-3) was led by Camille Zimmerman with 10 points. The Lions were 3 of 15 on 3-point attempts.

For the fourth straight game, Arizona State was without starters Sophie Brunner and Kelsey Moos due to injury.
