CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) After the game in which she reached a scoring milestone, Oregon State's Sydney Wiese was more animated talking about the other side of the ball.

''I think defense is what sparks us offensively,'' she said. ''Getting rebounds, being able to push the ball, making them miss shots, that's a lot of fun for us and that's what we work hard at.''

Wiese had 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as No. 7 Oregon State beat Idaho 69-44 on Saturday.

Wiese now stands at 1,000 points for her career. The junior guard became the 19th player in Oregon State history to reach the mark.

Gabriella Hanson and Taylor Kalmer each scored 10 points for Oregon State (7-0). Ruth Hamblin added nine points and 13 rebounds.

''I thought we played with a great amount of intensity and challenged shots all day,'' coach Scott Rueck said.

Taylor Pierce scored 12 points for the Vandals (7-3). Idaho shot just 20.3 percent.

Idaho's top two scorers, Geraldine McCorkell and Christina Salvatore, combined to go 1 for 27.

''We couldn't throw the ball in the ocean from a boat,'' coach Jon Newlee said.

Oregon State took a 9-0 lead as the Vandals missed their first nine shots, and led 20-4 after the first quarter.

Idaho shot 1 for 18 in the third quarter, got outscored 20-5 and fell behind 53-29.

RECORD JINX: Salvatore remains tied for Idaho's career 3-point record with 268. She shot 0 for 9 from beyond the arc. ''Maybe that's in her head,'' Newlee said. ''I think once that dang record gets out of the way, you're going to see a different basketball player.'' Stacey Barr, a senior on last season's squad, also has 268 career 3-pointers.

SWISH SISTER: Wiese set Oregon State's career record for 3-pointers as a sophomore last season, and had two more on Saturday. She now has 221 for her career. She also is the NCAA's active leader in 3-point percentage at 42.4.
