The WWE Backlash pay-per-view will take place on Sunday, September 11, and is SmackDown’s first exclusive live special. This will see six matches take place, including two for new titles that have been introduced for the blue brand.

The SmackDown Tag Team Championship Tournament will conclude at Backlash. Heath Slater and Rhyno will be featured in the finals, but their opponents have yet to be determined. American Alpha had been planned for this spot. After The Usos injured the left leg of Chad Gable, however, it took the former NXT Tag Team Champions off the show. This leaves Jimmy and Jey to face The Hype Bros at Backlash to determine who faces Slater and Rhyno.

The Miz will defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Dolph Ziggler. This feud started when Ziggler didn’t like Miz’s antics, and called him out for it. After turning down a chance to fight on SmackDown, this got set up for Backlash. Can the former Tough Enough star retain the title he won the night after WrestleMania 32 again?

Also, the SmackDown Women’s Championship will be handed out, and Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt, and Dean Ambrose vs. AJ Styles for the WWE World Championship.
