Mickey Gall mauls CM Punk, finishes former WWE superstar in first round
Mickey Gall needed less than three minutes to hand former WWE superstar CM Punk a lopsided loss in his UFC debut on Saturday night.
It was a tall task for Punk as he stepped into the Octagon at 37-years of age with no prior fight experience, but he wanted to challenge himself with a new career in mixed martial arts.
Unfortunately for Punk he ran into a serious prospect in the 24-year old fighter from New Jersey who was discovered in UFC president Dana White's reality series "Lookin' for a Fight'.
As soon as the fight started, Gall wasted no time planting Punk on the mat with a big double leg takedown and from there things only went from bad to worse for the veteran professional wrestler.
Gall blasted away at Punk with punches and elbows until he attempted to push off the cage to get out of the bad spot, but instead the Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt improved his position as he moved to mount and started raining down shots.
Punk rolled to avoid the punishment and that allowed Gall to take his back where he started to absolutely punish the MMA novice with a series of hard punches.
Finally with Punk flattened out on the mat, Gall slipped his arm under the chin and wrapped up a tight rear naked choke. A moment later, Punk tapped the canvas handing Gall his second win in the UFC while the former WWE star fell to 0-1 as a professional.
The end came at 2:14 in the first round.
"This might sound like a gimmicky fight but I’m no gimmick. I'm for real. I'm not going (expletive) anywhere," Gall said after the victory.
Following the win, Gall followed through a promise he made earlier in the week as he called out the fighter he wants to face next inside the Octagon.
As for Punk, as disappointed as he was with the loss, he promised that this wasn't going to be his only appearance and he would fight in the UFC again one day soon.
"In life you go big, you go home. I just like to take challenges," Punk said. "This was a hell of a mountain to try and climb. I didn't get to the summit today but that doesn't mean I'm going to give up. That doesn't mean I'm going to stop.
"I will be back, believe it or not. This is the most fun I've ever had in my life."
