Nate Diaz receives fine, community service for UFC 202 presser melee

Nate Diaz has reached an agreement with the Nevada State Athletic Commission on a penalty for his part in the UFC 202 press conference melee back in August with opponent Conor McGregor.

The volatile press conference ended after Diaz tossed a water bottle at McGregor on the stage, which then erupted into several cans and bottles being thrown back and forth between the fighters.

As part of his agreement with the commission, Diaz will pay 2.5-percent — $50,000 — of his disclosed purse, which was $2 million for the fight with McGregor at UFC 202.  Diaz has agreed to pay the fine in full or submit a written request for a payment plan no later than Feb. 1, 2017.

In addition to the fine, Diaz also agreed to 50 hours of community service, which must be completed by Dec. 1, 2017.

In the agreement, Diaz took responsibility for his misconduct and apologized for any wrongdoing during the melee with McGregor. The commission voted unanimously on Thursday to approve the agreement.

The fine that Diaz will pay is similar to McGregor's punishment, which was also 2.5-percent of his disclosed $3 million purse, which equaled out to $75,000. McGregor also received 50 hours of community service.

McGregor also received an additional penalty, which required him to pay for a public service announcement that would equal another $75,000. McGregor didn't agree with the penalty that was handed down and recently filed for a judicial review in Nevada over the matter.

Considering Diaz's settlement with the state ended up less than McGregor's penalty, he might just have a point when a judge finally takes a look at his argument against the Nevada Commission.

Diaz must pay the fine or agree to a payment plan before he would be eligible to return to the cage to fight again.
