StaTuesday: History of Bucks' 30-point playoff games

Published Apr. 17, 2018 4:31 p.m. ET

The Milwaukee Bucks accomplished something in Game 1 of their playoff series against Boston they had seen happen just once in franchise history, and that occurrence was over 40 years ago.

When Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton both topped 30 points, it marked the first time a pair of Bucks scored that much since Bob Dandridge and Brian Winters accomplished the feat on exactly 42 years earlier.

Both Dandridge and Winters tallied 31 points in that 1976 contest, which like the 2018 game, was on the road (in Detroit) and a close defeat (126-123).

While Milwaukee ended up with "L's" in those games -- and have a steak of five consecutive defeats -- the Bucks overall in the playoffs are 45-27 when a player reaches 30 points.

There have been 74 instances in Bucks franchise history of a player scoring 30+ points in a postseason game. Unsurprisingly, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has the most, with 30. Marques Johnson is next with eight while Terry Cummings had seven. With three 30-point playoff games already in his young career, Antetokounmpo is tied for the fourth most in team history, along with Ray Allen, Sidney Moncrief, Oscar Robertson and Winters.

The last time the Bucks won a game when someone topped 30 points was April 29, 2006 and the last time on the road was May 24, 2001. Maybe those skids end this year, after all, Antetokounmpo has reached 30 points in three of Milwaukee's five games thus far against the Celtics this season (including Game 1) and had 28 and 29 in the other two.

Finally, some additional info on Abdul-Jabbar: The Bucks were 20-10 when he scored 30+ points in a playoff game, including 2-1 when he scored 40+. Abdul-Jabbar owns three of the franchise's six 40+-point postseason games.

Abdul-Jabbar had nine 30+-point games in the 1969-70 playoffs and 11 in 1973-74 -- in other words more than any other Bucks player had in their career.
