Bucks sign Payton to two-way contract

Published Oct. 17, 2017 12:10 p.m. ET

The Milwaukee Bucks signed point guard Gary Payton II to a two-way contract Tuesday.

Payton originally signed with the Bucks in April, appearing in six games while averaging 3.3 points, 2.2 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game.

The son of Hall of Famer Gary Payton -- who spent part of the 2003 season with the Bucks -- Payton spent the bulk of the 2016-17 season with the NBA G-League's Rio Grande Valley Vipers after spending two seasons at Oregon State.

Payton is expected to spend much of his time with the Bucks' G-League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd.

Players signed to two-way contracts spend much of their time in the G-League, but are permitted to spend up to 45 days on an NBA roster during the season.
