WWE fans are asking Mick Foley to give Summer Rae a chance on Raw
WWE has fully embraced the women’s wrestling revolution, but while megastars like Sasha Banks and Charlotte are main-eventing Monday Night Raw and making history by having the first women’s Hell in Cell match, not every female performer on the roster has received the same sort of boost.
Although SmackDown Live has done a commendable job of featuring all of its women on the (smaller) roster, episodes of Raw have mainly featured the quartet of Banks, Charlotte, Bayley and Dana Brooke, along with Nia Jax squash matches.
Alicia Fox made a few appearances (to lose to Nia Jax), Paige has been completely absent due to a combination of injuries and suspensions - and Summer Rae hasn’t appeared on Raw since before the WWE Draft. WWE hasn’t released any official word on whether Summer Rae is injured, so her fans are understandably concerned.
On Sunday, a Twitter user shared screenshots of a conversation they had with Raw general manager Mick Foley via direct messages. The fan complained that Raw was leaving behind many of the women on its roster aside from Banks and Charlotte, and suggested that the WWE give Summer Rae a chance.
After the screenshots went viral on Twitter, Foley announced that he would no longer be able to have DM conversations with fans - but he also asked fans to send him videos of Summer Rae matches to take to Vince McMahon.
Foley then announced he’d be taking a break from Twitter entirely.
Foley’s engagement seems to indicate that Summer Rae simply wasn’t a part of WWE’s immediate plans for Raw, but it will be interesting to see if that changes in the future.
Summer Rae is a bit of a hybrid between the old and new in the WWE women’s division. She’s been with the company since 2011 and she spent years in NXT at the same time as the “Four Horsewomen,” but in her time on the main roster she’s acted as more of a classic WWE Diva than a serious singles competitor. Some fans clearly believe she can be a part of the new-look, wrestling-first division, and it’s now up to Summer Rae to prove them right if Foley gives her a shot.
@GabeEd8th - can you suggest some of her greatest matches for me to review? https://t.co/P4vTz1AU5f
