Pedro Avila - Takes loss in 2021 debut Avila (0-1) allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out five over four innings to suffer the loss against San Francisco on Friday. Impact Avila served up a one-out solo home run to Darin Ruf in the first inning and yielded a second run in the frame following a two-out error. However, he rebounded from the rough beginning to keep the Giants off the scoreboard over his remaining three frames. The right-hander needed an inefficient 84 pitches to get through his four innings, however, and he was tagged with the loss as San Diego's offense was unable to generate any run support. Avila had made only one career big-league appearance (in 2019) before Friday, and he didn't pitch at all in 2020 while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
