LSU to wear spectacular gold throwback uniforms against Mississippi State
When LSU takes the field against Mississippi State this Saturday, the Tigers will be draped in "Gridiron Gold" thanks to these awesome throwback uniforms.
The jersey and numeral font were inspired by the Y.A. Tittle-era Fighting Tigers in the '40s. In fact, the idea for a throwback design was inspired by a campus visit from Tittle a few years ago. They also feature the “Sailor Mike” logo, which was popular during the '40s and '50s, on the collar.
The gold jerseys will be complimented by white helmets featuring number decals on each side, which pays tribute to the teams that wore the helmet design from 1957-71. The pants feature a letterman style 'L' on the hip, which is the same style of letter that was worn by LSU athletics back in the early 1900s and is still used by the university's letter club.
Here's a look at the finer details:
It's very cool that LSU has designed a throwback that manages to honor so many different eras of Tiger football all at once, something that I'm sure longtime fans will seriously appreciate. Most importantly, though, these uniforms are straight up gorgeous.
