GAME LOG

Tatsuya Imai - Only gets four outs in loss Imai (5-4) picked up the loss Wednesday against the Twins after allowing five runs on four hits and five walks across 1.1 innings. He struck out two.
Impact The start today was the latest hiccup in Imai's up-and-down first season in the MLB as he struggled with control and the long ball on Wednesday. After striking out 21 in his last two starts, Imai only struck out two and was pulled after he gave up home runs in the first two innings to Josh Bell and Kody Clemens. Imai picked up his first loss since May and raised his ERA to 6.14 and his WHIP to 1.47. The 28-year-old will presumably start in Washington next week.

Christian Walker - Dealing with stiff back Walker was removed from Wednesday's game against the Twins with lower-back stiffness, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact Walker went 0-for-2 with a pair of strikeouts before being replaced by a pinch hitter in the sixth inning. He'll get an extra day to rest up before the Astros begin their next series Friday against the Rays, but if he's unable to play in the opener, Isaac Paredes would likely be next in line to start at first base, creating an opportunity at third for Brice Matthews.

Taj Bradley struck out 11 to tie his career high, Josh Bell, Kody Clemens and Luke Keaschall homered and the Minnesota Twins beat the Houston Astros 8-3 on Wednesday night

Raynel Delgado - Exits with injury Delgado was removed from Wednesday's game against Minnesota with an apparent hand injury, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact A groundball off the bat of Trevor Larnach bounced off of second base and connected with Delgado's right hand, forcing the latter to come out of the game in the fifth inning. The Astros may provide an update on his status after the game.

Cristian Javier - Moving to bullpen Javier (shoulder) will be activated from the injured list Friday and work out of the bullpen going forward, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact Javier hasn't thrown more than 40 innings in the majors since 2023, so his move to the bullpen could be an attempt by Houston to limit his workload once he comes off the IL. The 29-year-old righty has already pitched 9.1 frames across three starts with Houston this season, coughing up 13 earned runs while striking out four batters and walking nine. Manager Joe Espada noted that Javier's move to the pen isn't necessarily permanent, so he could reclaim a spot in the rotation after he settles in.

Kai-Wei Teng - Goes on IL after option rescinded The Astros rescinded Teng's option and placed him on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a right knee sprain, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact Teng had been sent down to Triple-A Sugar Land following Saturday's start versus the Tigers, but it's been determined he suffered an injury before that transaction so he's now on the IL instead. It's unclear how long the right-hander might be sidelined.

Jeremy Peña - Does some light running on field Pena (calf) did some light running at Daikin Park on Wednesday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Pena was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left calf strain that had been lingering. The Astros are optimistic that Pena can return when his 10 days are up, and his ability to do some light running already bodes well for the shortstop reaching that goal. Raynel Delgado is filling in at shortstop for the Astros on Wednesday versus the Twins after Nick Allen manned the position the previous two days.

Bennett Sousa - Set for simulated game Sousa (elbow) will throw a simulated game at Daikin Park on Wednesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact Sousa has been limited to only five appearances for the Astros this season, first missing time due to an oblique strain and more recently battling left elbow inflammation. He's been shelved for nearly two months but appears close to throwing in a game. It seems unlikely Sousa will rejoin the active roster before the All-Star break.

Hayden Wesneski - Begins rehab assignment Wesneski (elbow) began a rehab assignment at the rookie-level Florida Complex League on Tuesday, tossing three scoreless innings with one strikeout.
Impact Wesneski yielded just one hit, retiring nine of the 10 batters he faced. It's a big step as the right-hander continues to work his way back from May 2025 Tommy John surgery. Wesneski will likely need to use most, if not all, of his 30 rehab days, setting him up to rejoin the Astros' active roster around Aug. 1.

Astros and Twins meet with series tied 1-1

Both the Houston Astros and the Minnesota Twins are looking for a series win with a victory on Wednesday
21 HOURS AGO • Associated Press
Yordan Alvarez - Turns tide with grand slam Alvarez went 3-for-4 with a grand slam in Tuesday's 6-4 win against Minnesota.
Impact Houston fell behind 3-0 after one inning, and that score held through three frames. However, the Astros managed to turn things around in the fourth, putting up six runs -- the final four of which came on Alvarez's grand slam. It was the seventh grand slam of Alvarez's career, tying the franchise mark shared by Jose Altuve, Carlos Lee and Lance Berkman, per Chandler Rome of The Athletic. The big hit was another in what has been a huge first half for Alvarez, who is tied for second in MLB with 26 home runs and 60 RBI while putting up a league-best 1.046 OPS through 86 games.

Josh Hader - Dominant in eighth save Hader earned a save against the Twins on Tuesday, striking out two batters in a perfect inning of work.
Impact Hader was unsurprisingly called upon in the ninth inning with Houston holding a two-run lead. The veteran closer made quick work of Minnesota, notching a pair of punchouts while retiring the side in order on nine pitches. Hader didn't pitch for the Astros until June 3, but he hasn't wasted any time reminding everyone that he's still one of MLB's top closers. He's gone 8-for-8 on save chances so far while giving up only one run and posting a 21:5 K:BB over 13 innings spanning 13 appearances.
22 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Mike Burrows - Fares well enough to nab victory Burrows (4-8) completed five innings against Minnesota on Tuesday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three batters to earn the win.
Impact Burrows had a rough beginning to his outing, allowing three runs on two hits in the first frame. He rebounded pretty well from there, holding the Twins scoreless over his following three innings before giving up one more run in the fifth. The right-hander logged just three punchouts, continuing a disappointing campaign so far on the strikeout front -- after posting a 9.1 K/9 across 96 innings with Pittsburgh last year, he's at a meager 7.2 K/9 through 90.1 frames this season. Beyond that, Burrows has regressed in his ratios as well, and he now holds a poor 5.58 ERA and 1.51 WHIP through 17 appearances (16 starts).
