Ryan Waldschmidt - Falls short of Opening Day roster The Diamondbacks reassigned Waldschmidt to minor-league camp, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact Heading into spring training, Waldschmidt looked to have a legitimate shot at earning a spot on the Opening Day roster after Arizona didn't make any major additions to its outfield over the winter to compensate for Lourdes Gurriel's (knee) extended absence to begin the season. Even with Corbin Carroll (hand) going down with a fractured hamate early in camp to put his availability for Opening Day in jeopardy, Waldschmidt never gained much momentum in his bid for a roster spot, despite posting a .796 OPS through nine Cactus League games. Though he could continue to get regular run in Arizona's spring lineups while Carroll is rehabbing and while Alek Thomas is playing for Team Mexico in the World Baseball Classic, Waldschmidt looks like he'll need to continue to mash at Double-A Amarillo or Triple-A Reno to begin the regular season before receiving his first big-league call-up.

Taylor Rashi - Misses out on Opening Day roster The Diamondbacks reassigned Rashi to minor-league camp Sunday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact Rashi reached the majors for the first time with Arizona in 2025, appearing in 10 games and logging a 4.41 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 22:8 K:BB over 16.1 innings. After being non-tendered in November, Rashi re-signed with Arizona on a minor-league deal shortly thereafter. He wasn't able to crack the Diamondbacks bullpen coming out of spring training, but Rashi could be in the mix for a promotion to the big club if he pitches well with Reno early on in the upcoming season.

Jose Fernandez - Headed out to Reno The Diamondbacks optioned Fernandez to Triple-A Reno on Sunday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact After being added to the Diamondbacks' 40-man roster over the winter, Fernandez will make the jump to Triple-A this season after spending the entire 2025 campaign at Double-A Amarillo, with whom he slashed .272/.321/.454 with 17 home runs and 12 steals in 510 plate appearances. The 22-year-old from Venezuela is regarded as only an average defender at shortstop, so a move to third base could be in the cards at some point down the road.

Kohl Drake - Optioned to minors The Diamondbacks optioned Drake to Triple-A Reno on Sunday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact The left-hander missed the final month of 2025 due to a shoulder strain, but he was good to go at the start of camp after being added to the 40-man roster during the offseason. Drake split last season between the Double-A and Triple-A levels, finishing with a combined 4.23 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 106:36 K:BB over 89.1 innings.
11 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Grant Holman - Out of running for roster spot The Diamondbacks optioned Holman to Triple-A Reno on Sunday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact Holman tossed a scoreless inning in his lone Cactus League appearance to date, but having a pair of minor-league options remaining might have hurt his cause for breaking camp as a member of the Diamondbacks' Opening Day bullpen. With the Athletics last season, the 25-year-old righty made 22 appearances (two starts) at the big-league level, logging a 5.09 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 17:9 K:BB in 23 innings.
11 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Juan Burgos - Sent packing from big-league camp The Diamondbacks optioned Burgos to Triple-A Reno on Sunday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact Burgos was one of 15 players dismissed from big-league camp in the Diamondbacks' latest round of roster cuts. The 26-year-old righty was unable to secure a spot in Arizona's Opening Day bullpen after yielding four earned runs on six hits and two walks over 2.1 innings in the Cactus League.
11 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Mitch Bratt - Sent to Triple-A The Diamondbacks optioned Bratt to Triple-A Reno on Sunday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact Bratt was added to the 40-man roster in November but has yet to pitch at the Triple-A level, so he was never a likely bet to begin the campaign in the majors. The 22-year-old lefty may not have to wait too long to make his MLB debut, however, especially if he can duplicate the 3.38 ERA and 10.9 K/9 he produced at the Double-A level last year.
11 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Brandyn Garcia - Overcomes illness Garcia (illness) struck out three batters over two perfect innings in his last two Cactus League appearances Wednesday and Saturday.
Impact During his second appearance of the spring back on Feb. 28, Garcia was lifted early after falling ill, but he needed just a few days to move past the issue. The 25-year-old lefty has allowed just two total baserunners over three innings this spring, putting him in good shape to break camp as a member of the Diamondbacks' Opening Day bullpen.
11 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Demetrio Crisantes - Overcomes shoulder issue Crisantes (shoulder) has appeared in three Cactus League games since making his spring debut Wednesday, going a collective 3-for-7 with one double.
Impact Crisantes was eased into workouts this spring after he underwent left shoulder surgery back in May, but the 21-year-old demonstrated enough progress in his recovery for the Diamondbacks to sign off on him playing in games. Crisantes is attending camp as a non-roster invitee and is likely to be assigned to High-A Hillsboro to open the 2026 season.

Merrill Kelly - Set for another bullpen Kelly (back) threw a successful bullpen session Sunday and will throw another one this week before potentially pitching in a Cactus League game, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Impact The veteran right-hander is working his way back from a bout of mid-back tightness, which prevented him from building up normally early in camp. Kelly is now ramping up his bullpen sessions and could soon be cleared for game action. He won't be ready for the opening series of the season, but manager Torey Lovullo previously indicated that could still avoid a stint on the injured list to begin the campaign.
12 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Jose Fernandez - Hot spring continues Fernandez went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and two RBI in Saturday's spring game against San Francisco.
Impact Fernandez has been one of the hottest hitters on the Diamondbacks this spring. The shortstop prospect is 7-for-25 with all seven hits going for extra bases. All three of Saturday's batted-ball events were hard-hit and 13 of his 18 balls in play this spring have been hit over 100 mph. There's been a lot of swing-and-miss, which is to be expected of a player that has yet to compete above Double-A, but most everything has come off his bat hot.
15 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Gabriel Moreno - Clubs long homer Moreno went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's spring game against the Giants.
Impact Moreno clubbed a first-inning home run that travelled 460 feet over the fence in left field. The blast is a reminder that Moreno's offense took a leap in 2025, when he slugged a career-high .433 (.148 ISO) and swatted nine home runs. A healthy Moreno, who was limited to 83 games by a fractured hand last season, is expected to join Corbin Carroll (hand), Ketel Marte and Geraldo Perdomo atop Arizona's order.
16 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Michael Soroka - Starts Canada's WBC debut Soroka allowed one run on four hits and one walk while striking out two over three innings in Team Canada's win over Columbia on Saturday at the World Baseball Classic.
Impact Soroka was on the mound for Team Canada's first game of the WBC. The right-hander threw 54 pitches (30 strikes), touching 97 mph and averaging 94.7 with his four-seamer, which averaged 93.6 in 2025. He was signed by the Diamondbacks for starting depth but could also throw out of the bullpen. Soroka's exact role to start the season will be determined by whether Merrill Kelly (back) can avoid a stint on the injured list. Kelly recently threw a bullpen and is set to throw live batting practice Sunday.
16 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Geraldo Perdomo - Out for WBC game with illness Team Dominican Republic manager Nelson Cruz said that Perdomo is on the bench for Sunday's game against Team Netherlands due to an illness, Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes reports.
Impact With Perdomo battling the flu, Cruz will turn to Erik Gonzalez to man shortstop in the Dominican Republic's second game of pool play. Perdomo will rest up and recover with the aim of returning to the starting nine Monday versus Team Israel.

Corbin Carroll - Taking live at-bats Carroll (hand) took live at-bats Friday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
Impact Carroll continues to make significant progress in his hitting program, taking live at-bats for the first time since undergoing surgery Feb. 12 to address a fractured hamate bone in his right hand. While he's still unlikely to see any spring training action, Carroll looks to have a strong chance to be ready for the Diamondbacks' regular-season opener..

Merrill Kelly - Set to throw live BP Kelly (back) is slated to throw live batting practice Sunday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact Kelly threw a bullpen session Thursday and came away from the session feeling good. He'll take the next step in his recovery Sunday by facing batters. The 37-year-old threw roughly 30 pitches in the bullpen session and utilized his entire arsenal.

Ryne Nelson - Overcomes early trouble Nelson allowed two runs on three hits and struck out three over 2.2 innings in Thursday's start against the Cubs.
Impact Nelson was knocked around in the first inning before settling in to retire the final seven batters faced in his second Cactus League start. He upped his pitch count to 42 (30 strikes). "Honestly, it felt like the stuff was good," Nelson told

Adrian Del Castillo - Begins baseball activties Del Castillo (calf) has begun hitting in the cages and catching bullpen sessions, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports.
Impact Del Castillo has been sidelined since mid-February, at which point he estimated a month of recovery time. He's not running yet, but the resumption of baseball activities indicates Del Castillo could be available for Opening Day.

Merrill Kelly - Feels fine after bullpen Kelly (back) threw a bullpen session Thursday and said he felt fine afterwards, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports.
Impact Kelly unleashed his entire arsenal during the session in which he threw close to 30 pitches. "I got a chance to speak with him directly after the bullpen, and he said he feels really good," Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said. The Diamondbacks have yet to determine the next steps for the right-hander, but that Kelly could return to the mound at this point in spring training bodes well for his availability in time for the regular season.
