Tyler Mahle - Saddled with ninth loss
Mahle (2-9) took the loss Tuesday against the Royals, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four over five innings.
Impact
Mahle surrendered a solo homer to Carter Jensen in the third inning to open the scoring, though it was just the second home run he has allowed over his last 26.1 innings. He kept Kansas City in check after that but ran into trouble in the sixth, issuing a walk and hitting a batter before exiting the game. Sam Hentges and Keaton Winn were unable to strand the inherited runners, leaving Mahle charged with the runs. The veteran right-hander has completed six innings just once over his last 11 starts -- his final outing before the All-Star break -- and owns a 5.36 ERA during that stretch. Mahle is projected to make his next start at home against a difficult Brewers lineup.

The Giants placed McDonald on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right elbow strain, Evan Webeck of the California Post reports.
Impact
McDonald made an early exit from his start Monday after suffering an injury while warming up for the fifth inning, and he'll now officially have to miss a few turns through the rotation. Tristan Beck will come up from Triple-A Sacramento to give the Giants some extra bullpen depth while the team sorts out its rotation plans.

Willy Adames - Cranks clutch homer Monday
Adames went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run against the Royals in a loss Monday.
Impact
Adames' lone hit was a huge one, as he belted a two-run homer to right-center field with two outs in the ninth inning to tie the game. However, the Royals were able to recover and notch a walk-off win in the bottom of the frame. Adames has opened the second half in fine form, contributing three homers and seven RBI over four contests. He's up to 18 home runs through 96 contests on the campaign, giving him a reasonable shot to reach the 30-homer mark for a third straight season.
