Bills called offsides on opening kickoff, negates fumble recovery
After being flagged 17 times in Week 4, Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan instituted a penalty-for-push-up rule in practice this week. Well, it doesn't appear to have worked.
On the opening kickoff against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, the Bills recovered the ball inside the 5-yard line after Bishop Sankey muffed the kick. What a great start to the game for the Bills, right? Wrong.
Marcus Easley of the Bills was called offsides, negating the fumble recovery and giving the Titans a second chance.
The Titans didn't score on the ensuing drive, but the Bills should have opened the game with the ball inside the 5-yard line. If possible, Ryan likely would have had his entire team drop and give him 50 push-ups after that horrendous penalty to start the game.
