Impact Griffin was the leading scorer for the Blue Devils in this one, and he managed to bounce back from a poor outing against Syracuse in the previous round of the ACC Tournament. The star freshman has scored in double digits in eight of his last 10 games.

Griffin has now started eight consecutive games for the Blue Devils and has averaged 14.4 points and 4.4 rebounds over that span, which has also featured three performances of 22 or more points. He's getting hot at just the right time and will be an x-factor for Duke as the postseason approaches.

Impact Griffin more than earned the opportunity to start by reaching double figures in five of his last six games off the bench, averaging 11.7 points and 4.5 rebounds over that span. Even with Coach K unavailable Wednesday due to COVID protocols, Griffin still excelled with a career-best scoring total and the Blue Devils earned a decisive victory. Griffin is a consensus four-star recruit with a body that is physically read for the next level, and his all-around skill set is only beginning to surface. An October knee injury limited his early-season practice time and availability, but he now appears more than ready to take on a larger role while putting on a show for NBA scouts. Impact Griffin was originally given a 4-to-6 week timetable after spraining his knee in an October 9 practice, so this development means he's well ahead of schedule in his recovery. The level of competition surely must be taken into account when viewing the efficient stat line, but the real story here is that Griffin seems unlikely to be under any limitations when the Blue Devils open up against Kentucky on Nov. 9. There's even time to work back into starter consideration, but as far as this exhibition went, Trevor Keels and Wendell Moore drew the starts at shooting guard and small forward, respectively. Still, Griffin has the physicality and athleticism to immediately carve out a meaningful role. He's strong to the basket with a developing three-point shot, in addition to being a force on the defensive end with a 7-0 wingspan. Paolo Banchero is the freshman getting most preseason hype, but Griffin is a name that shouldn't be forgotten.
