Impact Dean played 25 minutes off the bench and led the team in rebounding and assists while also chipping in four steals on the defensive end. The junior transfer from Florida International has seen court time as the backup point guard and despite the 5'11" frame and has shown the ability to contribute in a multitude of ways. Dean's coming off a season in which he contributed 3.4 steals per game to lead the nation and his performance on the glass thus far is not too much of an outlier as he averaged just over five per game last season with FIU.

Playing at an above-average Conference USA did not stop him from being a versatile threat for multiple seasons in that league. As a freshman and sophomore, Dean averaged at least 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals across 30-plus games for Florida International.

Impact Both Dean and fellow starter Dashon Gittens sat this one out, but FIU was still able to prevail at home and collect its third victory of conference play. In Dean's stead, Javaunte Hawkins took over most of the ball handling and finished the game with 11 points and nine assists. Dean has plenty of time to recover from whatever is ailing him, as FIU doesn't play again until next Saturday against Middle Tennessee.
