Season likely over Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl said Monday during his radio appearance on WJOX 690 Birmingham that Powell (concussion) is unlikely to play again in 2020-21. Impact While Powell took a notable step forward in his recovery from a concussion Saturday by attending Auburn's win over Tennessee, the freshman guard apparently has a ways to go before he's back in playing shape. According to Gina Han of AL.com, Powell was highly sensitive to light and found it difficult to focus on his schoolwork -- let alone take part in physical activity -- after he initially suffered the head injury Jan. 2, an indication that he was dealing with a fairly significant concussion. Powell has made strides in the past two months and has resumed weight-training activity, but he's missed too much time to realistically put himself in position to play again this season, according to Pearl. Powell should still gradually increase his activities in the weeks that come, and he'll likely receive full clearance well ahead of the 2021-22 season.
