Aly Khalifa - Surprising scoring outburstKhalifa registered 17 points (6-12 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 2-3 FT), four rebounds, one assist and two blocks in 26 minutes during Saturday's 63-58 victory over UCF.
ImpactKhalifa took on a different offensive role in this one, firing up 12 shots including eight threes, connecting on three of them as he raced past his previous season-high of nine points by posting 17. Khalifa has often served as a point person from the center position for BYU, leading the team in assists on the season while totaling 20 assists and just 12 points over his previous three contests. He contrasted his traditional distributor mindset and stepped up his scoring Saturday against UCF while posting a season-low one assist. Considering Khalifa ranked 10th on BYU in scoring coming into the game despite starting 10 games, the 17-point outburst appears to be an anomaly for Khalifa. But whether scoring or distributing, Khalifa will continue to play an important role for BYU moving forward in their first season in the Big 12.
