Tamin Lipsey - Held scoreless in debutLipsey closed with zero points (0-1 FG), two rebounds, five assists and two steals across 17 minutes during Monday's 88-39 win over IUPUI.
ImpactLipsey finished with a team high in assists as he got the start at point guard in his collegiate debut. However, the 6-foot-1 freshman ultimately played fewer minutes than veteran guards Caleb Grill (32), Gabe Kalscheur (32) and Jaren Holmes (24), as these three combined for 48 points on 37 field-goal attempts. Lipsey could continue to play an orchestrating role on the offensive end, though he'll likely come off the bench moving forward in 2022-23.

Caleb Grill - 11 field-goal attempts MondayGrill totaled nine points (3-11 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT), seven rebounds, two assists and two steals across 32 minutes during Monday's 88-39 win over IUPUI.
ImpactGrill played a prominent role as he got the starting tap in Monday's season opener. The senior played all 35 games off the bench for the Cyclones last season, averaging 6.4 points, 5.8 field-goal attempts, 2.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals. Grill could continue to see an increased role while playing alongside Jaren Holmes and Gabe Kalscheur in the 2022-23 campaign.

Jaren Holmes - Highly efficient in short debutHolmes closed Monday's 88-39 win over IUPUI with 23 points (8-16 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 6-9 FT), four rebounds, two assists and three steals over 24 minutes.
ImpactHolmes finished as the Cyclones' leading scorer in his debut with the team Monday. In 33 starts during his final campaign with St. Bonaventure, the senior transfer averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.1 steals across 38 minutes per contest. While it will be difficult for him to replicate his eye-catching stat line against IUPUI, Holmes should see plenty of opportunities alongside Gabe Kalscheur moving forward, as the two look to make up for the loss of 2021-22 leading scorers Izaiah Brockington and Tyrese Hunter.
NOVEMBER 8, 2022ROTOWIRE
Gabe Kalscheur - 32 minutes off the benchKalscheur accumulated 16 points (5-10 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 2-3 FT), one rebound, two assists and one steal over 32 minutes during Monday's 88-39 win over IUPUI.
ImpactKalscheur tied fellow guard Caleb Grill for a team high in minutes played despite coming off the bench to open the 2022-23 campaign. The 6-foot-4 senior started all but one of 35 games for Iowa State last season, so his absence from the starting lineup Monday should not give an indication of his role moving forward. However, Kalscheur made just 23.5 percent of his 4.9 three-point attempts per game in 2021-22, so he's unlikely to continue his lights-out shooting performance from Monday's season opener.

Gabe Kalscheur - Coming off bench MondayKalscheur will not start in Monday's season opener against IUPUI, Travis Hines of The Des Moines Register reports.
ImpactKalscheur will open the 2022-23 campaign with the Cyclones' second unit after starting all but one game last season. However, this does not figure to indicate the redshirt senior's role moving forward this year, as the team is hoping his presence on the court will help energize Iowa States reserves in the first game of the year, per Hines. Kalscheur averaged 9.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 steals across 35 contests last season.
