Impact Auburn needed someone to start in place of Jabari Smith (who declared for the 2022 NBA Draft) and selected Williams. However, he may not be regularly starting. Yohan Traore is a four-star recruit Auburn signed to replace Smith and possibly play in place of the senior Williams.

Impact Williams was part of a group of players who missed practice Friday due to illness, but it appears Auburn will have them available, as the team will be nearly at full strength for the opener. Williams saw his playing time dip last year due to Auburn having an incredibly deep and talented frontcourt, so he'll now have his sights set on returning to the 10.9 ppg and 4.7 rpg type of production from his 2020-21 campaign.
