Impact Newman combined with backcourt-mate DaVeon Thomas to score 41 points Tuesday in leading Cincinnati to the upset victory. The senior guard had struggled to start the Big 12 campaign, scoring just 16 points in the first three games of the conference season on 6-for-16 shooting. However, Tuesday was a season-best effort for Newman who shot 66.7% from the field on 12 shot attempts while draining 2-for-3 from behind the arc. After posting double-figures in six of the first nine games, Tuesday marked just his second such outing over the last eight contests.

Impact Newman started 31 of 32 possible games for the Bearcats in the 2021-22 season, but he suffered a knee injury in the first game of 2022-23 and never ended up returning to the court. Not only does he appear to be recovered, but it seems he's earned a starting role despite significant backcourt talent arriving via the transfer portal.
