Controversial flagrant late Mintz registered 17 points (7-18 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, two assists and three steals in 32 minutes before fouling out of Tuesday's 72-68 loss to North Carolina.

Impact While Mintz had his 12th double-digit scoring effort in his last 13 games, this game is likely to be remembered by an offensive foul on a go-ahead basket attempt late. While the call may have been debatable, Mintz extended his arm and collided with the face of the defending RJ Davis while he was driving the lane, which sent Davis to the floor for several minutes. Initially called a common foul, it was overturned to a flagrant that gave UNC two free throws and possession, essentially sealing the game. It also resulted in Mintz fouling out for the first time this season. Despite being unable to pick up a signature win, Syracuse sits at 6-4 in ACC play, though still currently on the outside looking in with respect to the NCAA Tournament. Mintz staying hot offensively will be key to changing that, and the Orange have several big opportunities ahead in matchups against Virginia Tech (Jan. 28) and Virginia (Jan. 30).

Impact Mintz started the season with 15 or more points in five games in a row, and while he hasn't been able to replicate those performances in the last few weeks, this was clearly a step in the right direction for the freshman since this was the first time he cleared the 20-point plateau. Even though he's been inconsistent, Mintz has looked good so far and is averaging 15.0 points per game in his first year with the program.
