Aljaz Kunc - Noteworthy reserve minutesKunc recorded a rebound, an assist and a steal across 13 minutes off the bench in Tuesday's 84-73 victory over Kennesaw State.
ImpactKunc has apparently been dealing with a back injury for much of camp, but he was one of four reserves used in the 11-point victory. Look for the Washington State transfer to continue providing forward depth for the Cyclones in 2021-22.

Caleb Grill - Plays 30 minutes off benchGrill closed Tuesday's 84-73 victory over Kennesaw State with 11 points (4-8 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), two rebounds, two assists and two steals in 30 minutes.
ImpactGrill played the second-most minutes on the team despite coming off the bench. He followed head coach T.J. Otzelberger from UNLV to Iowa State, so it's not overly surprising he saw that much action right out of the gate. Tyrese Hunter, Gabe Kalscheur, and Izaiah Brockington look to be the starters going forward, but Grill and Tre Jackson should mix into the backcourt rotation off the bench as capable scorers.

Tyrese Hunter - Strong outing in first gameHunter amassed 11 points (3-6 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 3-6 FT), six rebounds, five assists and four steals across 20 minutes during Tuesday's 84-73 victory over Kennesaw State.
ImpactHunter was able to contribute well in all facets of the game in just 20 minutes of action. Hunter has a chance to be the most productive freshman this season in the Big 12. The fact that he was able to move into the starting lineup for the opener is impressive. Tre Jackson and Caleb Grill will still be options for new head coach T.J. Otzelberger off the bench.

Izaiah Brockington - Productive showing in team debutBrockington provided 18 points (6-10 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 5-5 FT), six rebounds, two assists and two steals in 28 minutes during Tuesday's 84-73 victory over Kennesaw State.
ImpactBrockington and Gabe Kalscheur proved to be a strong duo in the opener, combining for 37 points. Brockington considered a jump to the NBA after a good season with Penn State, but ultimately decided to come back to school. He is in position to post some big numbers this season for a Cyclone team trying to get out of the basement of the Big 12.
NOVEMBER 10, 2021ROTOWIRE
Gabe Kalscheur - Team-high 19 points in victoryKalscheur ended with 19 points (5-11 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 8-13 FT), one assist and two steals in 33 minutes during Tuesday's 84-73 win over Kennesaw State.
ImpactKalscheur was very aggressive in this one and was able to get to the line 13 times. The Minnesota transfer will have better shooting days from deep, but it appears he is finally in position to put up some strong numbers as he tries to help Iowa State get turned around. Kalscheur and the Cyclones will take on Oregon State on Friday.
