Commits to Memphis Kennedy has transferred to Memphis, he announced on twitter Friday.

Impact The former Runnin' Rebel initially decided to take his talents to Vanderbilt, but will head to Memphis instead. Kennedy missed some time with UNLV in 2021 but had his most productive season to date, posting 14.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists. The guard will bring reinforcements to a Tigers team depleted by the transfer portal and the NBA Draft.

Impact Kennedy hadn't stepped on the court since Dec. 22, but he picked things up right where he left them off -- he scored in double digits for the sixth game in a row and produced offensively even if he came off the bench. Considering he'd been a regular starter for UTEP before going down injured, he might return to the starting unit Thursday at home against Rice.

Impact Golding termed mid-to-late February as a "best-case scenario" for Kennedy's return to the floor, so it certainly sounds like an even longer absence is on the table. The sophomore played a big part for the Miners on both ends of the floor through the first 12 games, racking up 13.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.2 steals per game, but the team, which has gone just 4-3 since he went down, will need to soldier on without him for the foreseeable future.

Impact After reportedly suffering a foot injury in the final two minutes of the Dec. 22 clash with Bradley, Kennedy missed the previous game and looks to be headed for some more. It doesn't sound like he's slated to return in the near future, so a return in the back half of January may be the most optimistic timeline at this point. Prior to his foot issue, the sophomore was averaging 13.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.0 steals over 34.0 minutes per game in his 12 appearances, so his absence will certainly put a big dent in the usual rotation.

Impact Kennedy apparently suffered the injury with two minutes remaining in the game against Bradley on Dec. 22. The 6-5 sophomore is the team's second-leading scorer, averaging 13.9 points to go along with 5.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 34 minutes per game. It's unclear how long he's expected to be out but he represents a massive loss for the Miners. Jamari Sibley is expected to step into a larger role with Kennedy out.
