ImpactWhen asked about Ayers' status after the game, Duquesne coach Keith Dambrot said his absence was "just for his own protection, I'd rather not talk about that" (per Zachary Weiss of Pittsburgh Sports Now). Ayers is a starter turned reserve that had still been averaging 10.0 ppg prior to his absence, but clearly there's more to the story that Duquesne isn't letting on. The Dukes have also lost 16 consecutive games and are dead last in the Atlantic 10, but they'll have one final shot to get in the win column when they open up the conference tournament against Rhode Island on Wednesday.
