Louisville plays host to Furman

Furman and Louisville both look to put winning streaks together

Samuell Williamson - Double-doubles off bench Williamson ended with 14 points (6-12 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 1-3 FT), 14 rebounds and one assist over 27 minutes during Tuesday's 72-60 victory over Southern University.

Impact Surprisingly, Williamson started the season on the bench but was able to deliver one of the Cardinals' most efficient stat lines with a strong double-double. He should find his way into the starting lineup sooner than later, presumably Friday against Fruman.

Malik Williams - Pulls down 13 boards Williams ended Tuesday's 72-60 victory over Southern University with six points (2-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-4 FT), 13 rebounds, one block and one steal across 24 minutes.

Impact Williams was a beast on the glass and while his scoring numbers were not very high, that might have been due to the nature of a game where the Cardinals thrashed their opponents. Williams should be back in the starting lineup sooner than later, presumably for Friday's game against Furman.

Mason Faulkner - Limited output in opener Faulkner totaled two points (1-2 FG) and one assist in 10 minutes during Tuesday's 72-60 victory over Southern University.

Impact Faulkner did not play in the team's exhibition game last week due to an ankle injury, and while he didn't play a big role in this one, that should change with time. He averaged at least 17 points per game in each of his last two seasons at Western Carolina, and he should be a decent piece off the bench for the Cardinals.

Dre Davis - Starting opener Davis is in the starting lineup for Tuesday's opener against Southern.

Impact Davis started 17 of the 20 games he was healthy for last season, averaging 7.4 points and 3.2 rebounds in 28.9 minutes per game. He'll get the nod to open up the new campaign ahead of Samuell Williamson, although could see a fairly even split in minutes.

Malik Williams - Not starting opener Williams is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against Southern.

Impact Williams got beat to the punch by incoming Junior College transfer Sydney Curry. The 6-11 big man played just three games last season due to a foot injury but looked back to normal in a scrimmage held a few weeks ago. Williams stands three inches taller than Curry and certainly will have more of a presence in the paint, however, Curry averaged 12.9 points per game last year and offers a better scoring option for head coach Chris Mack and the Cardinals.

Samuell Williamson - Not starting opener Williamson will come off the bench Tuesday against Southern.

Impact Williamson started in 15 of his 18 appearances for the Cardinals last season, but he'll open the 2021-22 campaign by coming off the bench. He averaged 9.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 28.7 minutes during the 2020-21 season and should remain a significant rotation piece for Louisville again this year.

Sydney Curry - Starting opener Curry is starting in Tuesday's season opener against Southern.

Impact Curry is in his first year at Louisville after transferring over in the offseason from John A. Logan College. The 6-8 junior averaged 12.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per game a season ago while earning Great Rivers Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors. It'll be interesting to see if he can maintain the same level of play at this level. He will likely be rotating with Malik Williams in the frontcourt.
