Impact Bates missed the team's first scrimmage due to a deep thigh bruise but contributed in nearly every statistical category in his first official action for Memphis. There was a bit of rust in the form of three turnovers, but that should easily be overlooked if Bates performs like the physical specimen and generational talent many believe he can be. Even on a loaded roster, it looks like Bates has earned a starting spot in what should be a one-and-done season. He may be a better real-life player than fantasy asset due to what projects to be a deep rotation, but the per-minute, multi-category production should more than satisfy fantasy managers who select him early in drafts.
