Return not imminentMinnesota head coach Richard Pitino said after Wednesday's 84-65 loss at Penn State that he isn't expecting guard Gabe Kalscheur (finger) to return to action anytime soon, Marcus R...
ImpactKalscheur has missed the Golden Gophers' last five games after fracturing a finger on his shooting (right) hand in a Feb. 16 practice. After undergoing surgery on the finger, Kalscheur was projected to miss 3-to-4 weeks, and Pitino's comments about the junior guard suggests he's trending toward the longer end of that timeline. If that's the case, Kalscheur would seemingly have an outside chance of being able to play in the Big Ten tournament next week, but he can safely be ruled out for Saturday's regular-season finale versus Rutgers. Jamal Mashburn has started the last five games in Kalscheur's stead, averaging 12.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 three-pointers in 34.4 minutes.

Posts double-double in reliefIhnen logged 12 points (3-8 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 10 rebounds and two blocks over 32 minutes in Wednesday's 84-65 loss to Penn State.
ImpactIhnen came off the bench once again Wednesday, but he saw a sharp uptick in playing time and recorded his second double-double of the year in the loss. His playing time should revert back to normal once Brandon Johnson (ankle) is able to return, but it was encouraging to see the sophomore's effective performance in the loss.
