Kobe Johnson - Bad beginning to stretchJohnson logged eight points (4-14 FG, 0-5 3Pt), four assists, three rebounds and one block across his 34 minutes during West Virginia's 67-59 win Monday against Missouri State.
ImpactJohnson shot 28.6 percent from the field and failed to make any of his three-point attempts Monday. As expected, the guard was part of West Virginia's starting backcourt, which he is expected to continue being in while Kerr Kriisa (suspension) sits out nine games. Though there remains little chance he does not replace Johnson post-suspension, the latter has a short stretch to excel and potentially improve his standing for future matchups. The first game was not good though.

Jesse Edwards - Double double in debutEdwards logged 13 points (4-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 5-7 FT), 13 rebounds, two assists, three blocks and one steal in 37 minutes during Monday's 67-59 win over Missouri State.
ImpactOn a night that the shorthanded Mountaineers played only six players for more than 10 minutes, the transfer from Syracuse led West Virginia in playing time, finding himself on the court for all but three minutes on the night. Edwards' performance was in line with his numbers from last year with the Orange when he averaged 14.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks. He'll look to continue that trend as he transitions from being one of the best big men in the ACC into becoming one of the top big men in the Big 12.

Quinn Slazinski - Excells in starting opportunitySlazinski ended with 18 points (4-10 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 8-9 FT), seven rebounds, two assists and one block over 34 minutes during Monday's 67-59 win over Missouri State.
ImpactWith Akok Akok out indefinitely due to an undisclosed medical emergency, Slazinski filled his role in the starting lineup and on the stat sheet, leading the team in scoring and finishing second in rebounds. The graduate transfer from Iona will remain a key piece in the starting lineup for West Virginia while Akok is sidelined and should continue to contribute as their sixth man upon Akok's return.
