Impact Shaver suffered a broken foot in practice in late-December that would go on to require surgery and end his season. The three-star freshman center will end his first collegiate year with just three appearances and two total points scored, but it shouldn't count towards his eligibility. It's unclear if he'll be ready to contribute at the onset of the 2023-24 campaign.

Impact Coach Davis also said that Johnson's injured knee has improved, but at a slower pace than expected, per Rivals.com. If the junior forward eventually misses a third consecutive matchup, as anticipated, then Tyler Nickel would likely receive an expanded role off of the Tar Heels' bench versus the Panthers on Wednesday night.

Impact Davis didn't have a high-volume offensive game against the Syracuse zone, but the main takeaway here is that he took a hard, inadvertent elbow to the face on a go-ahead layup attempt late from Syracuse freshman Judah Mintz. Davis was then down on the court for several minutes and was unable to shoot his free throws after the foul was upgraded to a flagrant. The Tar Heels have an extended break ahead and don't play again until hosting Pittsburgh on Feb. 1, which should provide Davis plenty of recovery time, provided he did not suffer any fractures or a concussion.
