ImpactHellems paced the Wolfpack in scoring Friday and responded well to his first start of the season, as he notched just eight points off the bench in the season opener Wednesday against Charleston. It remains to be seen which role he'll handle in NC State's next game Monday against William & Mary.

Thrives off benchHayes posted 13 points (6-8 FG, 1-2 3Pt), six assists and a steal across 19 minutes off the bench during Friday's 86-51 win over North Florida.
ImpactHayes started preseason as a candidate to become the Wolfpack's starting point guard and while that hasn't been the case yet, he delivered a strong case to earn the job Friday in limited minutes. This was an improved effort compared to what he did in the season opener where he only registered four points while making just one of his five shots from the field. He does have 10 assists in his two appearances so far, so his passing ability and court vision have been as good as advertised. He might have to settle for a bench role Monday against William & Mary, but he seems to be trending in the right direction after an underwhelming debut.
