Rafael Castro - In line for key role in 2022-23 Providence head coach Ed Cooley told Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports on Monday that Castro could have a big impact this season.
Impact Castro redshirted last season, but after averaging 11 points and eight rebounds per contest in two exhibition games, it sounds like the 6-foot-11 big man could be in line for a big year. Jared Bynum is likely to remain the focal point of Providence's offense in 2022-23, but Cooley seems encouraged by what he's seen from Castro during the preseason.

Impact Locke drew the start in Providence's first exhibition matchup, but he moved to the bench for this one while Ed Cooley experimented with a taller starting five. That resulted in 6-11 freshman Rafael Castro drawing the start, though Locke still saw more minutes than any other bench player. Locke operated almost exclusively as a starter during his years with Florida and Louisville, so this would be a new development for the fifth-year senior.

Impact Castro has been a standout in exhibition play, and while the competition has been nothing to write home about, his usage and production have still been encouraging. Initially thought to serve as a backup center, the 6-11 freshman now appears to be making a bid for a starting role, which would move frontcourt mate Ed Croswell over to the four. Top reserve big man Clifton Moore was also a major factor in this one, collecting 12 points and seven rebounds in his 19 minutes on the court.

Ed Croswell - Leads scoring for Friars Croswell had a team-high 18 points (7-7 FG, 4-7 FT) to go along with eight rebounds across 22 minutes in Saturday's 106-69 exhibition victory over Assumption.
Impact Croswell is returning for his fifth collegiate season -- third with the Friars -- and appears in line to take over the starting center role left behind by the departure of Nate Watson. He may not bring quite as much size to the position, but Clifton Moore is available to spell him off the bench when more physicality is needed, which would allow Croswell to move over to the four. In any case, presumed center eligibility could result in a nice boost to his fantasy value, depending on the format.

Noah Locke - Quick 10 in scrimmage Locke had 10 points (3-8 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and a rebound across 18 minutes in Thursday's exhibition victory over American International College.
Impact It's Locke's fourth school in five collegiate seasons, but it appears he'll take on a similar role with the Friars as a three-point specialist. He's averaged 2.1 three-pointers made or greater in each of his previous four seasons, with a career-best 42.9 percent success rate coming in 2019-20 with Florida. That dipped to a career-low 34.2 percent with Louisville last year, but the program struggled as a whole, and Locke should be able to bounce back under head coach Ed Cooley.

Impact Following a redshirt season, Castro appears to be in competition with Clifton Moore for the role of primary frontcourt reserve, though it also appears Providence will often utilize a small-ball lineup with 6-8 Ed Croswell and 6-7 Bryce Hopkins as the starters. It's still great to see Castro take care of business against an overmatched opponent, and he'll have a chance to build on this performance with another exhibition game set for Oct. 29.

Impact Hopkins was largely an afterthought at Kentucky last year despite being a four-star recruit, as he averaged just 6.5 minutes per contest. An offseason transfer to Providence appears to already be greatly increasing that mark, as he started and saw more minutes (and as many field-goal attempts) as any Providence player. He could find himself rising up fantasy draft boards should he continue his strong exhibition play.
