Impact Watson kicked off his season strongly and paced Providence in both scoring and rebounding, providing an impact on both ends of the court. The big man averaged has averaged more than 10 points per game in just one of his three previous seasons, and he's expected to be one of the team's main players on a nightly basis. His next chance to play will come Monday against Indiana.

Receives extra rest day Manager Jayce Tingler said Drew Pomeranz received Tuesday's save opportunity since Yates was receiving an extra day of rest, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Impact Yates pitched on back-to-back days over the weekend and threw 28 pitches in his last outing Sunday when he gave up two runs and was charged with the loss, so Tingler opted to given him a couple days to refresh. The 33-year-old converted 41 of 44 save chances with a 1.19 ERA and 0.89 WHIP last season and appears to have a firm grasp on the closer's job, but it's still interesting to see Pomeranz receiving the Friars' first save opportunity of the season. Yates should be available going forward as the top option for the ninth inning after the strenuous opening weekend.

Impact The left-hander started Wednesday's exhibition game against the Friars and got tagged for five runs on six hits over three frames, but Maddon has apparently liked what he's seen in summer training. Sandoval was late to camp after testing positive for COVID-19, but the delayed start doesn't appear to have significantly impacted his path to a rotation spot. The 23-year-old made his big-league debut in 2019 and had a 5.03 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 10 outings.
