Dashon Gittens - Sits for first time this seasonGittens (undisclosed) did not take the court in Saturday's 68-61 victory over Sam Houston.

ImpactGittens had started all of FIU's previous 22 games this season, averaging 9.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists across 27.5 mpg. With both he and point guard Arturo Dean sidelined for this game, Dante Wilcox and Jayden Brewer picked up starts and came through for the Panthers, as FIU picked up its third conference win and snapped a four-game losing streak. Gittens does have some time to recover ahead, as FIU isn't scheduled to take the court again until next Saturday against Middle Tennessee.

ImpactBoth Dean and fellow starter Dashon Gittens sat this one out, but FIU was still able to prevail at home and collect its third victory of conference play. In Dean's stead, Javaunte Hawkins took over most of the ball handling and finished the game with 11 points and nine assists. Dean has plenty of time to recover from whatever is ailing him, as FIU doesn't play again until next Saturday against Middle Tennessee.
