Scorching start continues Davis had 20 points (6-15 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 7-8 FT) to go along with 13 assists, six steals and two rebounds across 30 minutes in Wednesday's victory over Houston Baptist.

Impact Davis is no stranger to producing for the Mustangs, as the TCU transfer started all 26 games he appeared in last year, recording 14.7 ppg and 6.7 apg. He's had to shoulder more of the load early in 2020-21, however, as backcourt mate Tyson Jolly has been sidelined due to personal issues. The Mustangs have been coy about the exact reasons for Jolly's absence, but as long as he's out, Davis' usage will skyrocket. Things are about to get a bit tougher for SMU, however, as matchups against Dayton (Dec. 5) and Vanderbilt (Dec. 8) are on the horizon.

Impact It's been a strange start to the year for last year's leading scorer at SMU (14.5 ppg), as Jolly still hasn't taken the court. The preseason all-AAC guard at one point tweeted via his unverified Twitter account that "It's over for me" but that appears to have been deleted. He added another post Wednesday stating "don't count me out too soon." Per Bill Embody of 247 Sports, coach Tim Jankovich told reporters Monday that Jolly is out for personal reasons, but didn't offer much beyond that. Jolly's next chance to take the court will be Saturday against Dayton, but there's been little reason to suggest this saga will be coming to an end any time soon.

Impact After sitting out the 2019-20 campaign to comply with NCAA rules following his transfer from Cal, McNeill wasn't able to suit up in SMU's season-opening win over Sam Houston State on Nov. 25. While the nature of McNeill's absence still isn't known, he's apparently healthy enough to make his Mustangs debut Monday. McNeill was a two-year starter at Cal, but it's unclear if he'll work with the top unit right away with his new team.

Impact Davis couldn't have wished for a stronger season debut, as he bested his career-high mark by nine points while missing just four shots in the entire contest. Davis hadn't scored more than 30 points across his college career in the past, so it's unlikely that he'll match this production on a regular basis going forward, but he should be one of SMU's top scoring threats. His next chance to play will come on Nov. 30 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
