The 6-foot-9 junior, who started in all 39 games with the Boilermakers last season, is averaging 14.5 points, seven rebounds and 2.5 assists across Purdue's first two games. Finally out of the shadow of two-time Player of the Year winner, Zach Edey, Kaufman-Renn should have a much larger role with Purdue this season.

Impact Kaufman-Renn was highly productive in this one and showed why he could see big-time production in the Boilermaker frontcourt with Zach Edey gone. Purdue will be a hard team to deal with offensively when Kaufman-Renn plays center, but they might be a little soft defensively like they were in this one against Creighton. He didn't get many chances last year to play significant minutes, but you can bet he will see a lot of chances this season to be a focal point for this team alongside Braden Smith.

Impact During the Purdue team's 2023-24 season, Kaufman-Renn and Zach Edey were the Boilermakers' primary big men, with Edey getting a lot of chances with the ball. But now that Purdue's team is without the reigning two-time Naismith Player of the Year, a primary scorer and rebounder, at least some of Kaufmann-Renn's numbers are expected to spike up. He averaged 6.4 points and 4.0 rebounds across his 39 games started for the 2023-24 Boilermakers. But with Edey out, Kaufman-Renn has a legitimate chance to average at least 10 points and five rebounds during his junior season.

Said to be most improved Purdue's head coach Matt Painter said Monday that Kaufman-Renn is his most improved player going into the 2023-24 season, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Impact Ideally for Kaufman-Renn, Painter saying the forward being his most improved player bodes well for better opportunities given to him. He averaged less than 12 minutes across his 35 games during Purdue's latest season, but actually drew the start over the likes of Mason Gillis and Caleb Furst in Saturday's charity exhibition. He still played significantly less minutes than Gillis, but managed to rack up nine points (4-7 FG, 1-4 FT) and three rebounds in 20 minutes. The team is looking for options to complement Naismith College Player of the Year Zach Edey. So if Painter truly means what he says, Kaufman-Renn could significantly boost his overall output soon.
