Career-best performance Thompson chipped in 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-3 3Pt), six rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal over 40 minutes during Saturday's 68-65 victory over Rutgers. Impact The Gophers were incredibly short-handed Saturday, especially in the frontcourt, as five players were out -- three of which were starters. That list included starting center Eric Curry and starting power forward Jamison Battle, who were both dealing with undisclosed injuries. That left a heavy dose of minutes to Thompson, a 6-11 freshman who had previously registered a season-high of 11 minutes. Thompson had hardly been a rotation player, even in non-conference play, but he's suddenly thrusted into a significant role due to the injury situation in what was already a thin position group. It's about to get a lot tougher for the roster's only true center, however, as matchups against Ohio State, Wisconsin and Purdue await.
