Granted waiver The NCAA approved Martin's request for a waiver Wednesday, making him eligible to compete immediately at Connecticut, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports. Impact The Huskies were already bringing in a promising crop of incoming freshmen in 2020-21, but Martin may have been the team's biggest offseason pickup, as the Rhode Island transfer chose UConn over a number of other suitors after entering the portal in late March. Though Martin left Rhode Island without his degree, the NCAA apparently looked favorably upon his appeal for a waiver, allowing him to play right away at his new school in 2020-21 during his junior season. While he may have to sacrifice some minutes and touches while he joins a more talented Connecticut roster, Martin should have a fairly clear path to a starting role at either forward spot. During his second season at Rhode Island, Martin averaged 12.8 points, 7.0 boards, 1.5 treys, 1.1 assists and 1.1 steals in 34.2 minutes per contest.
