Since shifting back to the bench five games ago the 6-foot-4 senior has had a very inconsistent role for Rutgers, averaging 7.8 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.8 assists on 14.4 minutes per game, but failing to score in 2-of-5 games during that span.

Impact Wisconsin isn't typically the team to be setting season highs against, but Acuff did just that with his scoring, minutes and attempted field goals. Much of that can be attributed to the usage of Dylan Harper, who saw significantly limited run due to an illness that had forced him to sit out the previous game as well. Acuff, a two-time transfer, should remain a role player moving forward at his first Power 5 school.

Impact Having Acuff available and ready to go will be a huge boost for Rutgers, as the senior guard is expected to play a prominent role in the team's backcourt even if he doesn't open the season in a starting role. Acuff is a transfer from Eastern Michigan who averaged 21.7 points per game during the 2023-24 season.

Impact Among 10 Rutgers players who participated in Thursday's game, Acuff logged the fewest minutes. But according to Jerry Carino of The Asbury Park Press, the redshirt senior's previously fractured foot played a big part in his limited playing time against St. John's. He recently recovered and underwent only one week of team practices before participating in the exhibition. So while Acuff's three-minute log is concerning, limited playing time may not be a regular occurrence during Rutgers' 2024-25 season. But now, the question is how much of this campaign's early portion will include him.

Impact Acuff is on the floor and participating in pregame warmups and it appears as if he will see some minutes. This comes after he fractured his foot during practice in June. His potential return to the floor Thursday is a great sign for his availability to start the season with the opener just under three weeks away.

Impact The Knighthood Showcase is a team scrimmage Rutgers' basketball program decided to undergo more than a before its 2024-25 season. Acuff wearing street clothes before the scrimmage indicates he would sit it out. But according to an earlier article by Fonseca, Acuff anticipates being ready for the 2024-25 Knights' first game, currently scheduled for Nov. 6 against Wagner. The article does not mention whether or not he will be ready by Oct. 17, when Rutgers and St. John's are expected to play each other in an exhibition.

If so, even with a fractured foot, Acuff may have no problem aiding the Scarlet Knights in their newest season right off the get-go.

Inactive Saturday Acuff (undisclosed) has been ruled out for Saturday's showdown with Miami (OH), Blake McQueary of The Eastern Echo reports.

Impact Acuff will miss his second game of the season as Eastern Michigan faces off against the RedHawks. The 6-foot-4 junior has been the driving force behind the Eagles' success this season, averaging a whopping 21.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals on 37.9 minutes per game. Acuff will have his next opportunity to return Tuesday against Akron, but his expected status moving forward is unknown.
