Impact The preseason player of the year in the American Conference has been largely limited this season due to an unspecified illness, but it looks like he'll be back in action for the Shockers' toughest game yet. Look for him to rejoin the starting lineup and serve as the team's top scorer moving forward.

Impact Etienne is apparently dealing with a non-COVID-related illness. Although he practiced Monday, the guard will sit this one out in hopes of getting back to full strength for the Shockers' next game Friday against Arizona.

Impact According to Taylor Eldridge of The Wichita Eagle, Etienne is dealing with an illness that prevented him from logging practice time Sunday. This at least explains the uncharacteristically bad shooting line for the preseason all-AAC guard. He did start the season opener and even sank the game-winning shot, so there's no reason to hit the panic button yet, even if he's limited once again Tuesday against Tarleton State.

Impact Entering the season, it was known that Etienne's scoring ability would be a crutch all year for the Shockers, who's leading scorer from the year before came from the sophomore guard. Etienne pulled up from the Shockers' logo, sinking the game winning three in order to lift his team to victory. Expect Etienne to continue to tear up opposing defenses and be go-to scorer late in games this season.

Earns preseason AAC accolades Etienne was named the 2021-22 Preseason Player of the Year in the American Conference on Wednesday.
Impact Etienne also joins SMU's Kendric Davis as the only unanimous selections to the all-AAC first team, with the squad rounded out by Marcus Sasser, Jalen Duren and Landers Nolley. The award comes as no surprise after Etienne earned co-AAC POY honors last season on the back of 16.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg and 2.5 apg averages. He did get his draft stock tested over the offseason, but will ultimately return to the Shockers for a third year and projects as one of the top fantasy assets in the conference.
