Keve Aluma - Impressive against Navy Aluma contributed 20 points (5-9 FG, 10-10 FT), six rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal over 23 minutes during Friday's 77-57 win over Navy.

Impact Aluma only had eight points due to back soreness in the season opener, but that didn't seem to be an issue in this one as he carried the Hokies to a solid victory. One of the most promising and productive big men in the ACC, Aluma is looking to improve on what was a career-best season in 2020-21, when he averaged 15.2 points and 7.9 rebounds.

Impact Mutts only averaged 9.5 points per game last season, but Tuesday's season opener showed he might be ready to handle a bigger role offensively. He already scored double digits per game in 2019-20, so a steady role on offense shouldn't be anything new for him.

David N'Guessan - Nearly perfect in season opener N'Guessan ended Tuesday's 82-47 victory over Maine with 15 points (7-7 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 0-1 FT) and one block over 18 minutes.

Impact N'Guessan couldn't have dreamed about a better way to start the season, as he hit all of his field goals and also left his mark defensively. Expecting this kind of output -- and these levels of efficiency -- aren't realistic, though, and he shouldn't be more than a bench piece going forward for the Hokies.

Impact Aluma was in the starting lineup for what was ultimately a blowout victory, but his low minutes weren't necessarily due to game flow. According to David Cunningham of Tech Sideline, Aluma was spotted on the bench using some type of device/heating pad on his back. After the game, coach Mike Young just attributed it to back soreness, plus the fact he wanted to get John Ojiako some more minutes. It doesn't sound like Aluma is in major danger of missing games, but his minutes may be limited early in non-conference play as he works back to 100 percent.
