Impact Matthews couldn't be slowed down while facing the Cyclones' typically tough defense. The 6-foot-7 senior matched his season high for free-throw tries while also posting his best final shooting stat line of the 2022-23 campaign. Matthews has largely been a supplementary scorer for the Mountaineers with 9.6 points per game this season, and he finished with six or fewer points in four of the five games prior to Wednesday's win. Matthews will run into another difficult challenge when West Virginia takes on Texas in a road matchup Saturday.

Impact Johnson scored in double figures for the first time in the past four West Virginia games. The senior guard had taken a very moderate 3.3 field-goal attempts per contest over the previous three games, but he reprised his usual scoring role Saturday by logging almost his exact average for field-goal attempts per game (6.7). Johnson has also averaged 5.1 free-throw attempts per game while shooting 83.2 percent from the charity stripe, which provides a solid floor to his largely consistent scoring average this season (10.1).

As a result, the 6-foot-4 sharpshooter broke his previous season high for scoring (31) set against Auburn on Jan. 28. Stevenson has by far been West Virginia's most explosive scorer this season, averaging 14.9 points while converting 45.1 percent of is 11.6 field-goal tries per game and 38.3 percent of his 5.2 tires from beyond the arc. The three-time transfer player has also averaged 24.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists across the last four games.

Impact Okonkwo posted the first double-double of his short career despite playing just 14 minutes. This was also the 6-foot-8 sophomore's second game with double-digit rebounds this season, which was likely due to an increased number of opportunities given the extreme runaway nature of this game. His four field-goal attempts were also his second most of any game this season, so it's not worth putting much stock in this outlier performance for Okonkwo.

Impact It was already a frustrating night on the court for Bell, who had as many turnovers (4) as points and generally didn't make an impact against a stout TCU defense. Impact Stevenson posted the best scoring mark of his career in this lights-out shooting performance. The South Carolina transfer shouldered much of the offensive workload in this win, finishing with twice as many points as his next closest teammate, forward Jimmy Bell (15). Stevenson also broke his extremely rough stretch from beyond the arc, as he converted a season-high seven three-pointers after converting just 18.6 percent of his 5.4 three-point tries per game over eight conference games. The 6-foot-4 senior also hit an inefficient 31.5 percent of his 11.1 field-goal attempts per game during that span. Therefore, it's possible this outing could be more of an outlier than the norm for Stevenson moving forward.
