Diving into ECU's disappointing season-opening lossSome VIP takeaways after rewatching East Carolina's 33-19 loss to Appalachian State.

Rahjai Harris - Inefficient on the groundHarris had eight carries for 22 yards while adding in 56 receiving yards on four receptions during Thursday's loss to Appalachian State.
ImpactAfter leading the Pirates in rushing yards last season as a true freshman, Harris struggled on the ground against Appalachian State. Averaging only 2.8 yards per carry, the 5-foot-10 running back was able to make up for it with his 56 receiving yards. Harris had three games with over 100 rushing yards last year, so it is clear that he is capable of putting up better outings than he did Thursday. Harris will look to get back to his normal self while competing with fellow running back Keaton Mitchell for snaps this season.

Ryan Jones - Scores on lone receptionJones caught a 38-yard touchdown against Appalachian State.
ImpactAfter sitting out the last season due to transfer protocols, Jones scored in his first game as a Pirate. The 6-foot-2 tight end will be competing with the likes of Shane Calhoun and Zech Byrd as the season continues.
SEPTEMBER 3, 2021•ROTOWIRE
Tyler Snead - Quiet in lossSnead caught four passes for 27 yards as well as losing a fumble against Appalachian State.
ImpactAfter leading the team in receptions and being second in receiving yards last season, Snead got off to a slow start in week one. The 5-foot-7 receiver caught four passes for just 27 yards and turned the ball over as well. Snead will look to get back to being his reliable self as the season progresses.

Jsi Hatfield - Leads receivers in lossHatfield caught three passes for 51 yards against Appalachian State.
ImpactThe 5-foot-9 speedster led all Pirate wide receivers with 51 yards on his three receptions during the loss. In fact, Hatfield surpassed his last year's 31 total receiving yards in just one game as he looks to be more involved in the offense this season.
SEPTEMBER 3, 2021•ROTOWIRE
Holton Ahlers - Two scores, one pick in lossAhlers went 22 of 40 for 295 yards with two touchdowns and one interception against Appalachian State.
ImpactAhlers struggled with accuracy against a tough Appalachian State defense. Still, he averaged 7.4 yards per attempt on a high pass volume. Ahlers and Co. have a tough schedule upcoming with South Carolina and Marshall on tap.

Nate Noel - Big night in openerNoel had 15 carries for 126 yards against East Carolina.
ImpactNoel was the surprise performer of the night for Appalachian State as he led the team in rushing yards, besting Camerun Peoples. A performance like that should afford Noel a steady role in the Appalachian State backfield moving forward.
