Top running back in win Johnson tallied 12 rushes for 73 yards during Saturday's 17-9 victory against Northwestern. Impact Johnson replaced senior Anthony Grant as the Cornhuskers' primary running back Week 8. The redshirt freshman totaled just nine carries across Nebraska's previous three games, but the coaching staff apparently turned to him out of displeasure with Grant's performance over that same stretch -- 32 carries for 94 yards. Johnson still tallied fewer rushing attempts than mobile starting quarterback Heinrich Haarberg (16), who has now logged double-digit carries in four of the past five games. If Johnson once again takes on a bigger role against Purdue this coming Saturday, then he could be locked into a role as Nebraska's RB1 for the final stretch of the regular season.
