Commissioner Gloria Nevarez says Mountain West finally has firm footing

It was just more than a month ago when the Mountain West’s future was very much in doubt even though realignment seems to be never-ending

Kenny Odom - Nets 95 yardsOdom caught four passes for 95 yards versus FIU on Wednesday.
ImpactYou can see why Odom also returns kicks for the Miners, because he is a big-play receiver. He's turned 23 catches into 530 yards and four touchdowns.
OCTOBER 17ROTOWIRE
Jevon Jackson - Huge game versus FIUJackson ran 26 times for 148 yards and a touchdown and had one catch for a 22-yard touchdown versus FIU on Wednesday.
ImpactJackson had disappeared from the offense with Ezell Jolly getting healthy. However, head coach Scotty Walden benched Jolly early after he lost a fumble. That thrust Jackson into a key role against a bad run defense, and he made the most of it. Now, the question is what the carry split looks like next week against La Tech.
OCTOBER 17ROTOWIRE
Ezell Jolly - Honeymoon over alreadyJolly had nine carries for 41 yards and lost a fumble against FIU on Wednesday.
ImpactJolly got healthy and over his first two games ran the ball 44 times for 195 yards and a touchdown. He was the lead back to start this game, but after his fumble the back was benched and Jevon Jackson excelled. Was this a one-off lesson from a head coach already feeling the pressure after a bad start? Or Jackson see his role increase going forward?
OCTOBER 17ROTOWIRE
Skyler Locklear - Called on to start against FIULocklear ended up starting Wednesday against FIU after Cade McConnell (undisclosed) was ruled out hours before the game. He went 14-for-23 for 161 yards, one touchdown, and one int...
ImpactLocklear was able to lead the Miners to a win, their first of the season. He hasn't been any worse than McConnell, so there is no reason for UTEP to rush him back if he's injured with a game coming up Tuesday against La Tech.
OCTOBER 17ROTOWIRE
Dean Patterson - Turns one catch into TDPatterson caught one pass for a 16-yard touchdown against UTEP on Wednesday.
ImpactThis was an odd game, as Patterson only had three targets. In five of his seven games this year he's had at least seven targets. He still managed to score a touchdown to salvage the day, though, and next week should be better for him.
OCTOBER 17ROTOWIRE
Eric Rivers - Catches another TDRivers caught five passes for 91 yards and a score Wednesday against UTEP.
ImpactThat makes five games in a row with at least four catches and 90 yards for Rivers. He's been a top-notch receiver, but there is one reason for hesitation at the moment. Due to injuries to the top-two guys on the depth chart, third-string quarterback Haden Carlson may be starting under center next week against Sam Houston.
