Starting season as backup Loftis will start the 2024 season as the backup quarterback to Maalik Murphy, Pete Thamel of ESPN.com reports.

Impact The returning Blue Devil will be relegated to second string duties as Texas transfer Murphy mans the rock. Loftis appeared in six games during the 2023 campaign, completing 91 of 163 passes (55.8 percent) for 1,006 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions. He'll start out the season as the backup; though, anything can happen in the next few months.

Solid effort in loss Loftis completed 26 of 45 passes for 278 yards, two touchdowns and one interception during Saturday's 30-27 loss versus Virginia.

Impact Loftis has filled in for starter Riley Leonard (ankle) the last few weeks and finished with his highest passing yards total across his last three outings. The 6-foot-3 quarterback will likely get another start against Pittsburgh next week. He has thrown for six touchdowns and two interceptions in his three starts.
