Impact It seemed like the Sam Houston offense had found a new philosophy. Watson's a limited passer, so he was throwing the ball less and running it a ton, with good success. So, naturally, this week he came out and attempted his most passes in a game yet. That may be about the matchup, though, and 224 yards on 29 attempts is not remarkable. Expect plenty of running from Watson going forward.

New offensive philosphy at SHSU Watson went 10-for-19 for 95 yards and ran 27 times for 105 yards and two touchdowns against Texas State on Saturday. He did lose a fumble as well.

Impact It would seem the Sam Houston staff has tweaked the offense to suit Watson's skills. This is the second week in a row where Watson has run for over 100 yards and scored two TDs, and this time his carries were way up. Notably, this week Jase Bauer didn't see any snaps under center either, so it seems Watson, running quarterback is the guy.

Impact It's also worth noting that Watson left the game to get medical attention, and Jase Bauer stepped in. Watson has been all over the place in terms of performance, and it's only been four games, but the Bearkats are 3-1 so it's working for now. As long as Watson is healthy enough to play, expect to see him next week against Texas State.

Impact After surprisingly winning the QB job for the Bearkats, Watson played well against Rice, and then really struggled against UCF. He rebounded against Hawaii, and notably no other quarterback registered any stats, so clearly Watson remains the guy under center.

Second start a concern Watson went 9-for-13 for 82 yards and two interceptions against UCF on Saturday. He also ran seven times for 15 yards.

Impact Watson won a three-way QB battle for Sam Houston and impressed in the opener against Rice. He clearly struggled in Week 2 and Jace Bauer got playing time under center. It will be interesting to see the play at quarterback for Week 3's game against Hawaii.

Impresses in first start Watson went 16-for-27 for 229 yards and two touchdowns against Rice on Saturday. He also ran 14 times for 57 yards.

Impact Watson somewhat surprisingly won a three-way quarterback battle to start for the Bearkats. Not only that, but he was the only quarterback to get any snaps in this one. Rice isn't exactly a juggernaut, but it is an AAC team that won six games last season. This is a very encouraging beginning to his time as SHSU's starter.

Drawing start Saturday Watson has been named the starting quarterback for Saturday's game against Rice, according to Sports of SHSU.

Impact Watson won the three-way competition for the starting role, beating Jase Bauer and Grant Gunnell. Watson has yet to take a collegiate snap in his career, so this will be the first time he carries an offense.
