D.J. Matthews - On track for Week 1 Indiana coach Tom Allen said Friday that Matthews (knee) is expected to be ready for the team's regular-season opener against Illinois on Aug. 2, Jared Kelly of 247Sports reports. Impact Matthews did not practice this spring while recovering from a season-ending torn ACL suffered just four games into the 2021 regular season late last September. The sixth-year wideout is still working his way back in fall camp, with Allen providing additional clarification Friday that "it's still a progression" and "more than anything, it's just the load that he's able to handle." Matthews was on pace for a career season in 2021, catching 13 of his 18 targets for 165 yards while adding two additional touchdowns as a rusher and punt returner, and he should play a prominent role in the Hoosiers' offense this coming season.
