Grabs second TD in loss Rex posted three catches (on four targets) for 52 yards and a touchdown during Saturday's 45-13 defeat versus Iowa State.
Impact Rex grabbed his second touchdown of the season as BYU was blown out at home by Iowa State. It's been a tough year for the Cougars and the junior tight end has just one catch in three of his last six games. The quarterback play has been inconsistent in 2023 which has not helped Rex's production on the season. BYU will play Oklahoma next week.

Coming back for fifth season Rex announced via Twitter on Monday that he will return for a fifth season with BYU in 2023.
Impact Rex is coming off a solid campaign with the Cougars in which he caught 22 passes for 320 yards and six touchdowns. His best season remains as a redshirt freshman in 2020 when he had 37 receptions for 429 yards and a whopping 12 touchdowns. Rex and BYU will look to have a competitive first season in the Big 12 in 2023.

Starting Monday BYU offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick told KSL NewsRadio on Saturday that Rex should be ready to go for the start of the regular season.
Impact Roderick (ankle) said that the team initially anticipated for Rex to miss the first 4-6 weeks of the 2022 campaign while recovering from season-ending ankle surgery undergone late last November. Now, the Cougars' coaching staff feels confident that the redshirt sophomore will be prepared for the team's Week 1 opener against South Florida on Sept. 3. Though his numbers fell off somewhat last year, Rex totaled 37 receptions for 429 yards and 12 touchdowns over 11 games during the 2020 season, and he should slot in as BYU's No. 1 tight end and one of the team's top receiving threats in 2022.

Expects to be ready for fall camp Rex (ankle) is progressing well and expects to make his return in time for fall camp, Dick Harmon of The Deseret News reports.
Impact Rex has been walking around and expects to be able to run in three weeks. The 6-foot-6 freshman has been working out his lower body and has continued to work out his upper body the entire offseason. Rex appeared in 12 games during the 2021 season, logging 18 catches for 191 yards and three touchdowns for BYU. The freshman expects to be 100% for the start of fall camp.
