Starting Monday BYU offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick told KSL NewsRadio on Saturday that Rex should be ready to go for the start of the regular season. Impact Roderick (ankle) said that the team initially anticipated for Rex to miss the first 4-6 weeks of the 2022 campaign while recovering from season-ending ankle surgery undergone late last November. Now, the Cougars' coaching staff feels confident that the redshirt sophomore will be prepared for the team's Week 1 opener against South Florida on Sept. 3. Though his numbers fell off somewhat last year, Rex totaled 37 receptions for 429 yards and 12 touchdowns over 11 games during the 2020 season, and he should slot in as BYU's No. 1 tight end and one of the team's top receiving threats in 2022.
